Garden Day at Constitution Island
July 26, 2008
Anna B. Warner's 1872 book, Gardening by Myself is the inspiration for the 4th Annual GARDEN DAY – celebrating Anna’s garden and the volunteers who keep history alive. Katy Moss Warner, President Emeritus of The American Horticultural Society will speak on “Earth Friendly Gardening” and author Ronnie Clark Coffey, former Executive Director of the Constitution Island Association, is launching her new book, Constitution Island, the first photographic history of the island.

Visitors can attend a variety of gardening topic talks focusing on practical solutions & how-to's. Be inspired by the Anna B. Warner Memorial Garden and learn expert tips on gardening for beauty, attracting beneficial wildlife, and for growing organic vegetables. Bring seeds, garden books, and plants to trade in the SWAP TENT. Don't miss the first PLANT & SEED SALE run by the gardeners - including peonies and divisions of perennials from Anna’s 1870 garden!
Spend a day on an island! Bring a picnic or enjoy Rogers Catering on Wheels. Local historian Don MacDonald will be on hand to answer your questions. Free Warner House and Revolutionary War fortification tours by docents that take you back in time, free boat rides on The North River, and leave with a plant for your garden! The Gift Shop will be open: copies of Anna’s book, The Great Chain jewelry, and authors to discuss and sign your purchases.
There will also be a silent auction, a photo contest open to all ages, and a hands-on children’s activity - learn how to sow seeds (and take them home to plant).
The $10 fee includes the shuttle bus from the Garden Day Tent at the south end of the Cold Spring Metro North train station parking lot running continuously from 10:00 to 3:00; last bus leaves the island at 4:00; boat shuttle for West Point visitors. No rain date; thunderstorm cancels.
